1st Club 500 race of 2018
Sunday 14th 9.45 am, dull weather, biting cold wind across the lake, 4 degrees C.
The usual lads turned up bright and cheerful, Piers was awarded and presented with the winners trophy for 2017.
He was congratulated and immediately bought a new motor for the ensuing year. I`m sure Phil can get it fitted for the next races.
It was agreed by those present that this would be a practice race until the new boats and motors had been scrutinised.
By the time the course had been set the cold was beginning to get through the layers of clothing so 3 races were deemed enough.
Don took some photos which we hope to publish soon and stalwart Ed did his usual greatly appreciated scoring, no gloves nor hat and open necked shirt!!
In the 1st race 6 of us set out on the count of Terry, my brand new model being turned over in the first bend which seemed to cheer up most taking part.
The racing thereafter being competitive and mainly clean and enjoyable the results were, after Terry called time:-
Piers 1st, followed by Paul, Phil, Terry, Vaughan and me. Piers being 2 laps in front.
The second race was eagerly contested but this time Pauls boat got rolled after 4 laps, mine hit a buoy and rolled with Terry finishing with 1 prop blade missing(again), the results were:-
Piers 1st, Phil, Vaughan, me, Terry and Paul.
After a quick battery change and freezing fingers the 3rd race got underway with the following results:-
Piers 1st narrowly beating Phil into second, me 3rd, Terry 4th, Vaughan 5th and Paul unluckily last.
I was pleased with my new model and think this years races will be more down to driving skill than power, giving closer racing and even more fun.
Thanks to all who came despite the cold, all that helped with the course setting and collecting, timing, scoring and good humour also to those helping to open & secure the gates.
Well done and welcome to a great 2018 season.
