I have now managed to paint the barge, firstly giving the whole outside a coat of marine varnish to seal the wood and prevent water ingress, followed by a coat of primer and 2 top coats in final colours. Ok, so maybe its not the best lookin' barge about, but its purely functional, not cosmetic. I have "tank tested" it and with 3 2ltr filled bottles in the hold, it sits just on its waterline, no problem, thus it then gives the barge some resistance in the water, sufficient for towing I guess. I just have the hatch cover to finish and all done for now. Then perhaps later on, i'll make a proper one!
All we need now is some sailing weather, perhaps if we all shout LOUD enough, someone might hear us!
